International Day Of Disability 2020. BADIG Virtual Coffee Afternoon.

Each year, BADIG hosts a Tea and Coffee Afternoon in the Civic Centre, Ballymun, to celebrate International Day of People with Disability. It’s an opportunity for people with disability, and people who support them, to get together to swap news and share experiences. It also gives BADIG a chance to highlight key issues which we are concentrating on addressing through advocacy with local or national organisations.

Like everyone else, our plans for the 3 December 2020 event had to be revised to take account of the pandemic restrictions, so we moved online to hold a virtual Tea and Coffee Afternoon on Zoom. We were pleased by the attendance, in particular by Councillors Noeleen O’Reilly and Mary Callaghan who joined us for what was a very informative and enjoyable afternoon.

This past year, we have had to adapt how we share information and undertake advocacy.

The Tea and Coffee Afternoon was a great testament to how well we can all adapt to the new way of meeting and working together remotely.

A key highlight of the event was the presentation of a new video made by our Chairperson, Lana Kurasidze, demonstrating her use of the new LifeGlider mobility aid. Lana learned about this revolutionary new aid online and is believed to be the first user of the product in Ireland. We will post more information on this exciting new mobility aid shortly. In the meantime, this short introductory video captures the excitement of LifeGlider perfectly!
